A storm door is the cheapest upgrade that meaningfully changes how an entry performs. It takes the weather before your main door does, cuts the draft coming under the threshold, and gives you a screen through the four months of the year when Calgary is actually pleasant.

Both are built for this climate. Both will outlast a bargain door by a decade. Which one you end up with depends on the exposure, the swing, and whether you want full view, three-quarter view or a retractable screen.
How we install them
The opening gets checked before anything is ordered. Brick mould that has gone soft is rebuilt, primed and painted — there is no point hanging a new door on rotten trim, and this is the step most installers skip because it is not visible in the finished photo.
Then the door goes in plumb, level and square, with the closer set to the weight of the door and the sweep adjusted to touch the sill without dragging. A storm door that is hung right closes with one hand and latches without a shove.
