What Mortising Actually Means

When strike plates aren't properly mortised, the door doesn't close flush and the latch can miss or partially engage — meaning the door appears closed but isn't actually latched.
The Installation
The strike plate recess was cut precisely to accept the new plate flush with the frame surface. The latch assembly was verified for correct throw depth and alignment before the handle set was installed.
